Wine Handler is a simple program for keeping track of your personal wine inventory. I originally wrote the program several years ago for my father's CP/M machine (anyone remember the Epson QX-10 and Valdocs?). A few years ago, I convinced him to upgrade to a Macintosh. His one condition was that I implement Wine Handler for the mac first. Thus, Wine Handler Mac was born.
I haven't revved Wine Handler in quite a while. It is not a fancy program, but it does support the Mac interface fairly well. Features include:
• Any number of open windows, each containing a separate wine list.
• List view interface, supporting shift-click for range selections and command-click for discontiguous selections.
• Cut/Copy/Paste of the current selection between windows.
• Double-clicking on a selected wine, or on one of a group of selected wines, brings up the movable modal editing dialog box. The Previous and Next buttons allow you to navigate through the wines, if you selected more than one to edit.
• Sorting by a number of fields, via the Sort menu.
• Customization of fields to show via the View menu.
• Simple printing.
Features I would like to add in the future include:
• Cross-reference searching. For example, "show me all the red dry Californian wines which are ready to drink." Until this feature is implemented, the work-around is to sort by one criteria, say vintage. Then copy the wines you want to use to further narrow your search to an empty document. Then sort this smaller list by another criteria, and so on. Not pretty, but it accomplishes simple conjunctive searches.
• A free-form Find function, which can search comment fields, etc.
• Faster printing.
• Some custom form capabilty, for printing.
• Direct editing in list view.
• Resizable column widths in list view.
• Horizontal scroll bar in list view.
• Adding smart pop-up menu to wine editing dialog which knows all your common choices, so as to avoid extra typing.
• Smaller wine data files.
• Wine data files remembering their sorting and viewing preferences.
• Use of a preferences file to save user-configurable defaults.
• Cut/Copy/Paste to global clipboard (for import/export to other applications).
